A man shot twice in the back in what was believed to be a drive-by shooting was found by paramedics Tuesday night out front of a Columbus Fire station on the Near East Side.

Columbus Fire paramedics discovered the 22-year-old man in front of Medic Station 20 in the 2600 block of East Fifth Avenue near Cassady Avenue around 11 p.m., according to radio traffic.

He was taken in stable condition to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, Columbus police said.

Initial reports were that the man was suspected to be the victim of a drive-by shooting which occurred nearby, police said. The suspect vehicle was being described by police as a maroon Kia with three occupants. A male in the rear passenger area is believed to have been the one who opened fire, police said.

Police were closing off a section of East Fifth Avenue to search for evidence.
