CHANTHABURI: A man shot to death his two daughters, five and nine years of age, before taking his own life with a shotgun in Pong Nam Ron district on Sunday morning.
Pol Capt Chanin Thamsantiboon, a Ban Plaeng police duty officer, said that on receiving a report, a team of police and medical staff were dispatched to house No 48 in tambon Thep Nimit of Pong Nam Rom district.
In the house, they found the body of Boonserm Pitphan, 36, lying in front of a cupboard with a shotgun by his side. A bullet had entered his mouth and tpassed through his head.
His two daughters were found nearby. Both had been shot in the chest. The five-year-old was dead, and the nine-year-old was seriously injured. The elder sister was rushed to Pong Nam Rom Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The police recovered three empty cases of shotgun bullets and a suicide note from the scene.
Somkid Pitphan, 33, a younger brother of Boonserm, said his brother was a construction worker and a village security volunteer. Before the incident, jealousy had reportedly led to a heated exchange of words between the man and his wife, after which she moved with the two daughters to live with her mother.
Boonserm had tried to make amends with his wife, Mr Somkid said, but was not successful. He took his two daughters back to his house late on Saturday night.
On Sunday morning, said Mr Somkid, he heard three gunshots. He broke into the house through the front door, which was locked from the inside. He believed Boonserm had shot his daughters before putting the gun barrel into his mouth and pulling the trigger with a toe.
Police were investigating. Boonserm’s wife was to be invited for questioning.
